Antique Bloodstone Intaglio Fob Pendant in 9 Carat Gold; Circa 1900

An unusual antique fob, beautifully created in three dimensions with the body of the fob formed as a magnificent prancing horse.

The sculptural horse feels like a tiny piece of sculpture rather than simply an item of jewellery. There is something particularly charming about these highly inventive antique fobs, where the object itself becomes part of the decoration.

The horse ends in a beautiful oval bloodstone intaglio, deeply engraved with a peacock accompanied by the Ecclesiastical Latin motto ‘COELI CLAVIS SANCTITAS’, translating as ‘Holiness is the key of heaven.’

The symbolism is wonderfully rich. The peacock has long carried associations with renewal and the divine, while the motto gives the intaglio a distinctly spiritual sentiment. Together, the carved imagery and inscription create a little object filled with meaning, inviting the wearer to look closely at every detail.
