A wonderfully evocative Edwardian gold medallion pendant, steeped in history and sentiment.

Created in rich 14 to 15 carat buttery gold, this substantial circular disc pendant has a beautiful weight in the hand, giving it a luxurious and reassuring presence. At its centre sits a finely formed shamrock motif, set with vibrant emeralds and green garnet stones. The gemstones display a lively, variegated hue. Flashes of fresh spring green and deeper forest tones all sparkling beautifully against the warm glow of the gold.

Encircling the shamrock is the poignant engraving “Pretoria St Patricks Day 1903” all completed by hand.

Dated to the Edwardian period, the year 1903 places this piece in a fascinating historical moment — just after the end of the Second Boer War — making the Pretoria inscription particularly significant. It was likely created as a commemorative or celebratory piece for St Patrick’s Day, possibly marking an Irish community gathering or military association in South Africa.

The combination of Irish symbolism, South African location and early 20th century craftsmanship gives this medallion a remarkable narrative presence. It is both a striking statement pendant and a tangible piece of social history.

A rare and characterful Edwardian jewel. Rich in symbolism, beautifully made, and deeply collectible.
