A beautiful and sentimental jewel. This Victorian pendant is such an eye catch piece of history and one we habit seen quite like it before
This beautiful piece is made from genuine Whitby jet, a rare fossilized wood found along the cliffs of Whitby, England. Popular during the Victorian era, Whitby jet jewellery became especially fashionable after Queen Victoria wore it in mourning for Prince Albert. Prized for its deep black sheen and lightweight feel, Whitby jet was meticulously hand-carved into elegant brooches, pendants, and other adornments. Its historical significance and timeless beauty make it a highly collectible and cherished material in antique jewellery.
Here we have the very unusual addition of mother of pearl inlay reading 'A present from Derby' along with pretty floral flourishes. The reverse of the piece being carved by hand in a style very typical of the era. The Muti coloured flashes from the shell really stand out against the dark jet.
Whether you want to personalise with a special token or image, or be worn as it is, this is a most remarkable jewel steeped in history.
