Antique Edwardian Silver Envelope Souvenir Pendant; Circa 1900

A lovely little souvenir, beautifully conceived as a petite postcard in silver.

Created in silver, the front of the pendant is designed just like a miniature postcard, complete with a tiny enamelled postage stamp and the name 'Margeret Exeter', accompanied by the date 1900. Turn it over and the reverse is hand engraved'Gruss Aus Hannover' German for 'Greetings from Hannover'.

Small souvenir jewels like this were wonderful keepsakes of travel, allowing a person to carry a memory of a particular place. The postcard design makes this feel especially personal, almost as though a little message from a journey has been transformed into jewellery.
