Antique Carnelian French Arrow Intaglio Fob Pendant

A beautifully sculptural early Victorian fob pendant, elegant in form and rich in sentiment. 

The pendant is crafted in a classic gold cased setting with wonderfully flowing and architectural lines, typical of the Georgian and early Victorian period. The mount has a satisfying sculptural quality, perfectly framing the intaglio suspended below.

Terminating the fob is an oval carnelian intaglio, glowing with warm amber red tones that catch the light beautifully. Finely carved into the stone is an arrow motif accompanied by the French motto 'Toujours Prest'.

Translated as “Always Ready,” the phrase carries connotations of preparedness and courage. Sentiments often associated with heraldic devices and family mottos during the 18th and 19th centuries.

Originally intended as both a seal and a decorative accessory, fobs such as this were treasured personal jewels, worn proudly upon watch chains and later adapted into pendants for continued wear.
