A striking Victorian mourning ring, created in buttery 18 carat gold and designed with powerful presence and sentiment. At the centre sits a beautifully carved monochrome agate, its graphic contrast lending drama to the design, and set with a single old- cut diamond at its heart. A poignant point of light within the darkness.
Inside the band, the original engraved dedication reads:
“Obit 15 Dec 1881 – 12th Nov 1886. M Jefferys, R J Jefferys.”
The dual inscription suggests the ring commemorates two individuals, likely family members or a closely connected couple. A deeply personal object of remembrance.
Mourning jewellery of this calibre was created not only to honour loss but to preserve memory in tangible form. This ring is a remarkable survivor; solemn yet beautiful. A powerful example of Victorian craftsmanship and sentiment, where grief, love and artistry are woven into a single enduring piece.
