Antique 'Fuimus' Carnelian Fob Pendant in 9 Carat Gold; Circa 1907

A beautifully detailed antique fob dating to 1907 carrying with it a true sense ofthistory. and legacy. 

The warm, rich orange red carnelian has been hand carved with two heraldic images, accompanied by the Latin motto ‘FUIMUS’. Traditionally associated with Clan Bruce, the motto translates as ‘We have been’ or, more evocatively ‘We were once kings.’ It is a wonderfully evocative motto, carrying with it a sense of ancestry and belonging. 

The shield-shaped intaglio is beautifully framed by its ornate setting, with the warm gold providing a wonderful contrast to the deep, glowing tones of the carnelian.  We especially adored hoe ornate the setting of the fob is as well as its more substantial scale. 

A handsome and wonderfully unusual antique fob. This piece is rich in symbolism and history, with a striking heraldic intaglio at its heart.

HALLMARK: Hallmarked of 9 Carat Gold 

WEIGHT: 5.2 grams approximately. 

INTAGLIO: 17 x 19mm approximately 

CONDITION: This is in lovely antique condition with a fine overall patina to the gold and carnelian intaglio. There is some minor damage to the base of the loop where it may have been pushed in a little at some point - however due to ornate design this is hard to see.
