Steeped in sentiment, this antique mourning ring is a luxurious and gorgeous jewel of buttery deep gold! We adore the rich and opulent feel of the piece.
Dating to 1880 this Victorian mourning ring has so many beautiful elements. At the front we have an old cut vivid garnet stone. The deep red hue perfectly complementing the buttery gold of the band around it. There is quite a lots of attention paid to the orange setting of the garnet as well as the entire piece.
Running around the band we have the words ‘in memory of with additional decoration. as can be seen from traces left behind this would have historically been enamelled with black enamel work as typically found in mourning jewellery of the era.
Within the ring we have the working ‘J H Bower Obt Sep 9 1880 At 67. The lovely script would have been added diligently by hand. Looking inside also we have a small void which would have once held a locket of JH Bowers hair to be loved and remembered by, by the wearer.
This entire ring is created from 18 carat gold. A deep buttery gold creating a luxurious ring of high quality. No expense was spared when this was commissioned in 1880.
