A beautiful early 20th century pendant, combining fine hand painted enamelwork with subtle antique sparkle.
Created in 14 carat gold, the pendant is formed as a simple circular disc, allowing the exquisite enamel decoration to take centre stage. The front has been hand painted with a richly detailed pansy flower, full of depth and vivid colouring. The artistry is wonderful, capturing the soft velvety petals and natural beauty of the flower.
At the centre of the pansy sits a single hand cut diamond, adding a gentle flash of antique sparkle against the vibrant enamel background. The contrast between the luminous diamond and the intricate painting gives the pendant a quietly luxurious feel.
Pansies carried deep sentimental meaning within Victorian and Edwardian jewellery, symbolising remembrance and loving thoughts. Inspired by the French word pensée, meaning thought. Jewellery adorned with pansies was often given as a token of devotion or memory, making pieces such as this especially romantic and personal.
