A charming Georgian fob pendant. Full of elegance, symbolism, and the wonderfully romantic craftsmanship of the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
The pendant is formed with an ornate gold cased setting, its flowing details creating a beautiful frame for the intaglio beneath. Suspended below is a lustrous milky white paste seal, glowing softly in the light.
Expertly carved into the paste is a butterfly in flight. Delicate yet full of movement, the butterfly has long been a symbol of transformation and the soul. Throughout the Georgian era, such motifs were often chosen not only for their beauty but also for the deeper meanings they conveyed to the wearer.
Originally intended as a personal seal, the intaglio would have been pressed into wax to secure letters and documents, leaving behind its beautifully carved impression. Today, it survives as a wearable piece of history, allowing its intricate carving and symbolism to be appreciated once more.
The contrast between the luminous white paste and the warm gold cased mount is particularly charming, creating a jewel that feels ethereal. The butterfly appears almost suspended within the stone, its delicate form enhanced by the soft glow of the material.
