A striking antique Victorian fob intaglio, rich in symbolism and beautifully designed. A tactile and wearable treasure.
The piece is set within an ornate gold cased mount, with elegant detailing that leads down to a substantial bloodstone intaglio. The bloodstone displays its characteristic deep green hue, offering a dramatic setting for the design.
The intaglio has been hand carved, depicting a lion holding a cross within a crown, a powerful heraldic image associated with strength and faith. Beneath the motif is the motto “Dum Spiro Spero,” which translates to “While I breathe, I hope.” This enduring phrase speaks to resilience and optimism, making the piece not only decorative but meaningful.
Fobs such as this were traditionally worn on watch chains and often engraved with personal or family crests, serving as both functional seals and expressions of identity.
