Antique Intaglio Signet Ring 18 Carat Gold; Circa 1880

A tactile antique signet ring created in rich 18 carat gold. This wonderful ring is the classic signet with a darling historical intaglio set within. 

A beautifully deep sardonyx intaglio hand carved with a powerful central lion holding a sword, accompanied by the Latin motto FIDE ET FORTITUDINE'  translated as 'By fidelity and fortitude'. The motto is associated with Clan Farquharson, a historic Highland Scottish clan.

The weight of the 18 carat gold, the substantial oval profile and the deeply carved sardonyx all make it feel like something designed to be handled, worn and treasured. There is a wonderful sense of history in the softened edges and time worn surface of the gold. This is an especially handsome Scottish heritage signet.

CONDITION: This is in lovely antique condition with a fine overall patina to the gold. There are a few nibbles to the edge of the stone as well as wear to the back of the band profile from wear against a harder metal. The ring is secure to wear an enjoy.
