Antique Norwegian Enamel Fairy Pendant in Silver; Circa 1900

A charming antique pendant, created in fresh silver and believed to be by the renowned Norwegian silversmith Marius Hammer. With its delicate enamel work and whimsical subject, it is a particularly enchanting example of Scandinavian jewellery.

The pendant is decorated with a beautiful guilloché enamel ground, the finely engraved surface creating a subtle pattern beneath the translucent enamel. One side has been lovingly coloured in the softest pastel shades, creating an almost dreamlike backdrop, over which a black enamel silhouette of a fairy catching butterflies in a net has been beautifully applied.

Marius Hammer was one of Norway's most celebrated silversmiths, particularly renowned for his beautifully crafted silver and enamel jewellery. His work is highly sought after for its distinctive combination of Scandinavian craftsmanship, colourful enamel and often whimsical imagery.

We love the gentle colour palette of this piece. Soft pastels contrasted with the crisp black outline of the fairy giving it a wonderfully nostalgic quality.
