Antique Sentimental Violet Intaglio Fob; Circa 1850

A charming Victorian sentimental miniature fob, beautifully presented in an ornate floral gold-cased setting. The design culminates in a finely carved glass intaglio seal, hand engraved with a single violet flower complete with stem and leaves, rendered with delicate precision.

In the language of flowers so beloved by the Victorians, violets symbolised faithfulness, modesty and enduring affection. While pansies were associated with loving thoughts and remembrance. Such motifs were often chosen to quietly express devotion or sentiment, making pieces like this deeply personal keepsakes rather than purely decorative objects.
