Antique Bird Intaglio Carnelian Ring; Circa 1860

A beautifully evocative antique intaglio ring, dating to the early Victorian era and carrying whispers of an even earlier past.

At its centre is an oval carnelian, warmly toned in rich amber hues, finely carved with a tranquil natural scene. A bird rests upon a branch, holding a small olive sprig in its beak. A timeless symbol of peace and hope. 

The setting itself is particularly charming. The intaglio is backed with a scalloped gold mount. A detail often associated with Georgian craftsmanship, suggesting that the carved stone may pre date the ring and has been lovingly converted into a ring, creating a subtle historical marriage of two periods.
