Antique Rose of Sharon Carat Gold in 18 Carat; Circa 1890

An enchanting late Victorian ring created in buttery 18 carat gold and designed in the form of a “Rose of Sharon” ring. A ring of real theatre!

At the centre is a marquise shaped amethyst paste stone in a rich purple hue. Applied across the surface of the stone is a delicate flower motif, set with a tiny pearl, creating the effect of a little flower blooming directly from within the purple stone.

The setting itself has a distinctly Gothic character, with its architectural form and rich gold colour giving the ring a wonderfully dramatic presence. The combination of the deep violet paste, luminous pearls and warm 18ct gold is particularly striking.

There is also a trace of what appears to be an external hallmark to the ring, although this has been considerably worn through age and historical sizing. The surviving mark suggests that the ring may have a French or Continental provenance, although it is unfortunately no longer legible enough to confirm its origin.

WEIGHT: 1.9 grams approximately.  

CONDITION: This is in lovely antique condition with little to fine patina over the ring and stone. There are traces of a historical sizing at the back inside of the band
