A wonderfully atmospheric Victorian brooch, featuring a carved “Man in the Moon” face. He has been set onto a simple silver bar mount. The face itself is formed from opaline, iridescent glass, shimmering with subtle flashes of blue, lilac, and soft gold. A magical play of colour that changes beautifully with the light.
These ethereal Man in the Moon jewels were beloved in the late 19th century for their whimsical charm and celestial symbolism, yet few survive today. There is a small, subtle chip to one side of the face, a gentle reminder of its age and journey through time. However it remains beautifully intact and full of character.
The pared back silver bar allows the luminous glass face to take centre stage, creating a brooch that feels both timeless and quietly otherworldly.
A rare and enchanting treasure. A little piece of the Victorian fascination with the night sky, captured in glass and silver.
