A wonderfully unusual Victorian pendant, originally a gentleman’s tie pin and now sympathetically converted. Created in silver, the piece takes the form of a circular disc intricately adorned with a lifelike spider’s web, complete with a finely modelled spider and fly captured in three dimensional detail.

This evocative design draws inspiration from the long standing moral tale of “The Spider and the Fly”, a theme found as early as the writings of John Heywood in the 16th century and later popularised in Victorian literature and art. Such motifs were admired not only for their storytelling but also for their symbolic reflections on temptation and caution —favourite themes of the era’s sentimental jewellery.

The craftsmanship is superb, with delicate wirework and beautifully textured miniature creatures adding character and charm. Now converted into a pendant, it retains all the appeal of its original Victorian purpose while becoming a wearable piece of antique art.
