Antique Sentimental Fern Bangle in Silver; Circa 1895

A tactile Victorian silver bangle, combining a simple form with beautifully hand engraved botanical decoration. Truly timeless. 

The bangle is substantial piece measuring approximately 25mm wide, with the broad silver surface decorated with an elegant pattern of hand engraved ferns. The design is restrained rather than being overly ornate. The sweeping fronds create a natural rhythm around the bangle, allowing the quality and weight of the silver to speak for itself.

Ferns held a particularly special place in the Victorian era. Their delicate, unfurling forms became hugely fashionable during the Victorian fascination with the natural world, while they also carried hidden and sentimental meanings within the language of flowers and plants. Ferns were associated with qualities such as sincerity and secret bonds, making them a particularly fitting motif for a piece of jewellery.

We love the contrast between the boldness of the bangle and the delicacy of the engraved foliage. It feels wonderfully Victorian.

HALLMARK: One Non-identifiable mark. Tested as Silver with some base metal elements.

WEIGHT: 24 grams approximately. 

SIZE: Inside measurements 50 x 55mm (this is on the smaller size wrist measurement wise) 

CONDITION: This is in good antique condition with only a fine patina across the surface of the bangle - the hinge works well with a distinct click.
