Ancient Roman Goddess Victoria Intaglio Ring

A striking and historical signet ring, dating to 1919, and centred with a remarkable ancient intaglio!

Created in 15 carat gold, the ring is designed in a timeless signet ring form, allowing the intaglio to take centre stage. Set within the mount is a beautifully carved naturally banded agate, its subtle layers providing the perfect canvas for the engraved classical figure.

The intaglio depicts the Roman goddess Victoria, the embodiment of victory and glory. Victoria was the Roman counterpart to the Greek goddess Nike, and was frequently portrayed honouring heroes and military leaders with wreaths or palm branches as symbols of success and achievement. Throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, collectors and jewellers greatly admired such classical subjects, often incorporating ancient or classically intaglios into everyday jewellery.

The natural banding of the agate adds depth and warmth to the carving, while the simple gold mount perfectly frames the stone without distracting from its intricate detail.
