Antique Victorian Diamond & Enamel Ring; Circa 1893

A sublime and highly sought after Victorian ring. This antique band dates to 1893 and has been created in buttery warm 18 carat gold; only the finest material of the era. 

The ring is formed as a beautifully graduating band, rising towards the centre where a sweet heart shaped setting holds a lively old cut diamond. 

What makes this example so special, is the vibrant floral enamel decoration adorning either side of the central heart. Rich red flowers are surrounded by delicate green leaves, the vivid enamel creating a striking contrast against the soft, buttery hue of the 18 carat gold. The colour is wonderfully unexpected and gives the ring a particularly joyful quality.

Floral enamel rings of this period are considerably less commonly encountered, making the survival of these colourful motifs especially charming. The tiny flowers and leaves bring an almost miniature botanical garden to the shoulders of the ring, while the heart at its centre adds a wonderfully poignant touch. This most definitely was a sentimental ring of love.
