An extraordinary survivor from the Georgian era. This deeply sentimental pendant is a beautiful expression of love and family. Rich in symbolism and rather unusual in its design, it stands as a poignant reminder of the intimate keepsakes of past generations.
Created in 15 carat gold, the pendant is composed of a central ring from which hang four heart shaped glazed lockets. Within each tiny heart is a woven plait of hair painstakingly created by hand.
The reverse of each heart bears engraved initials, personalising the pendant further and suggesting that each locket commemorates a different individual. Together they create what is likely to have been an intensely meaningful family keepsake, and one which most likely is not mounting by commemorative. Possibly for a parent of their children.
Rarely encountered and remarkable in its design, this Georgian mourning pendant is far more than an antique jewel. It is a precious fragment of personal history, offering a moving connection to the lives and loves of those who came before us.
