Antique Victorian Forget me Not Mourning Ring; Circa 1856

Few jewels speak so well of love and remembrance as a Victorian mourning ring. Rich in symbolism this darling example, dating to 1856, is a poignant reminder of the deeply personal jewellery that was made to honour the memory of a cherished loved one.

Created in 15 carat gold, the ring centres upon an oval panel with black enamel. At its heart blooms a forget me not, designed from rose cut diamonds. The softly twinkling hand cut stones create a beautiful contrast against the rich black enamel.

Inside the band lies one of the ring's most moving features; a partially preserved memorial inscription reading '…to my beloved… 1856 Aetat 66." The Latin word Aetat—short for Aetatis—translates as "aged,'. Though time has softened parts of the inscription, what remains offers a deeply intimate connection to the person whose memory this ring was created to honour.

Elegant and deeply sentimental , this is far more than a unique antique ring. It is a tangible piece of Victorian history, carrying with it a story of love that has survived for over 170 years.
