Antique Victorian Statement Hinged Bangle

A striking and highly decorative Victorian silver bangle. Dating to 1882 this jewel is rich in both symbolism and craftsmanship.

The bangle is beautifully engraved with a combination of naturalistic motifs and Egyptian Revival imagery, reflecting the Victorian fascination with both the natural world and ancient cultures.

At the centre sits a detailed panel, flanked by two stylised Egyptian sphinxes, their forms elegantly framing a single engraved rose at the heart of the design. The juxtaposition of the sphinxes and floral motif creates an unusual composition.

Extending outwards from the central panel are finely hand engraved ferns and foliage, their flowing lines adding movement and softness to the overall design. Every element has been carefully executed, showcasing the skill and artistry of the engraver.

The year 1882 places this piece firmly within the height of the Victorian era, a time when Egyptian Revival design was particularly fashionable, influenced by growing archaeological discoveries.

CONDITION: This bangle is in lovely antique condition with a working hinge. As can be seen in the pictures there are various dents and nibbles from love and wear.
