A sublime early Georgian mourning ring, created in 1761 to commemorate the life of Robert Bond, preserving both his memory and the affection of those he left behind.

Created in rich 18 carat gold, the ring's enamelled band records that Robert 'Rob' Bond passed away in 1761 at the age of just 30. Although some of the enamel has been lost over the centuries, the sentiment behind the ring remains powerful, serving as a touching reminder of the love and remembrance it was created to show.

The head of the ring is truly remarkable. At its centre sits a foil backed amethyst, displaying a beautiful soft lilac pink hue that glows beautifully. Flanking the amethyst are two old cut diamonds, their hand cut facets still bright and full of life. The gemstones remain wonderfully fresh and crisp for their age, a testament to the care this treasured ring has received over more than 260 years.

Georgian mourning rings were among the most intimate forms of memorial jewellery, created to honour the passed while giving comfort to those left behind. Each one tells a unique and personal story, making them some of the most evocative pieces of antique jewellery.
