Antique Victorian Queen of the Fairies Locket in Silver; Circa 1878

A striking  and deeply enchanting Victorian locket dating to 1878. The timeless piece has been beautifully created in crisp sterling silver and is magical today as it was over 140 years ago.

The large oval locket is decorated to the front with an exceptionally detailed hand engraved scene, depicting what we believe to be Titania, Queen of the Fairies, alongside an orphaned Indian boy. The imagery is wonderfully clear, with an extraordinary amount of detail preserved within the engraving.

Titania can be seen wearing her delicate crown and distinctive fairy wings, while the young boy wears a beautiful floral headdress he has been given by Titania. The engraving has a lovely clarity and confidence to it, with the tiny details of their clothing, crowns and wings carefully worked into the silver.

The Victorian fascination with literature, mythology and fairy folklore makes this an especially captivating jewel. Its ready to worn and loved again!

HALLMARKS: Hallmarked for Sterling silver - most marks are warn. Clear date letter inside front panel. 

SIZE: 45 x 38mm approximately without loop.

WEIGHT: 17.06 grams approximately.  

CONDITION: This is in lovely antique condition with a fine patina across the silver with some wear and nibbles as expected.
