Antique Georgian Mourning Swivel Ring; Circa 1830

A beautiful Georgian sentimental swivel ring. Created in 9 carat gold it still carries a touching reminder of a love remembered across the centuries.

The ring is designed with the sought after swivel mount, allowing the central rectangular panel to rotate. One side is set with a carnelian, its warm orange red tones glowing beautifully against the gold. Turn the panel and a far more intimate story is revealed. A glazed locket compartment containing its original plaited lock of hair.

Hair work was one of the most treasured forms of remembrance during the Georgian and later Victorian period. Unlike flowers or fabric, hair endured the passage of time, making it a powerful symbol of everlasting affection. While we cannot know the exact story behind this ring, it was most likely created as a mourning piece preserving a tangible keepsake of someone deeply loved and long since lost.

CONDITION: the ring is in lovely antique condition which fine patina across the gold. There looks to have been  historical ingress within the locket hair compartment which has caused some discolouring.
