Antique Victorian Whip Motto Fob Pendant

A curious and characterful antique seal fob. Full of intrigue and playful symbolism.

Created in base metal, the mount follows a timeless, understated design that allows the intaglio to take centre stage. The fob terminates in a glass paste made to resemble bloodstone, with deep green tones flecked with subtle red, echoing the appearance of the natural gem.

Finely carved into the surface is the intriguing phrase 'Do you want the' accompanied by the image of a whip or horse rising crop. The combination suggests a humorous or provocative motto, typical of the Victorian fondness for witty, sometimes teasing inscriptions. Pieces like this often carried private meanings or were intended as light hearted conversation starters among friends.

The intaglio would originally have functioned as a seal, pressed into wax to leave its impression. Both practical and personal and in this case a bit of fun.
