An unusual and highly symbolic antique ring dating to around 1900. Though it dates to around the end pf the Victorian era its design is found in nineteenth century examples.
Created in rich 18 carat gold, the ring has a wide band, with the entire outer surface decorated with a series of applied zodiac symbols. Each tiny emblem is carefully arranged around the band, creating a continuous celestial design that is both striking and wonderfully tactile.
Zodiac jewellery has a fascinating history, with rings incorporating astrological symbols known from as early as the Georgian period. Examples dating to around 1800 and throughout the nineteenth century demonstrate the enduring fascination with the zodiac, astrology and the idea that the stars might influence our lives and fortunes.
Bold and steeped in symbolism, this is a wonderful antique ring for anyone fascinated by antique jewellery, celestial items or simply beautifully made pieces with a story to tell.
