Antique Chrysoprase Intaglio Lion Ring in 9 Carat Gold; Circa 1900

A striking and antique intaglio ring, centred around a beautifully engraved pale lime green chrysoprase cut in a cushion shape. The fresh, luminous tone of the stone is instantly eye catching and wonderfully evocative of classical intaglio work.

Carved into the chrysoprase is a lion, rendered with confident detail and strength. Beneath the lion are the initials “T H ”engraved in an ornate Gothic script, adding a deeply personal and heraldic quality to the design. Lions were powerful symbols in antique jewellery, representing courage, authority, protection, and nobility, often chosen to convey strength of character or lineage.

The intaglio is set into a simple 9 carat gold mount, intentionally understated so that all attention is drawn to the stone. This restraint in the setting enhances the impact of the intaglio itself, allowing the craftsmanship and symbolism to take centre stage.
