A remarkable display of Victorian love, this exceptional mourning ring is as much a work of architecture as it is a piece of jewellery.
Created in rich 18 carat gold, the ring displays an unusually ornate design, its band highly engraved from end to end with intricate decoration. Rather than a simple setting it's almost a miniature monument, with a series of beautifully formed panels or windows encircling the band.
These compartments would once have displayed woven locks of hair. A deeply personal tribute to a loved one, preserving a tangible part of their memory within the ring itself. Today, the hair has been removed, leaving the band hollow to showcase its design even more.
At its centre is an oval panel of black enamel. Upon this a forget me not flower, its petals and leaves highlighted with rose cut diamonds. Rich in symbolism, the forget me not was one of the Victorian era's most enduring emblems of everlasting affection.
A rare and deeply evocative survivor of the Victorian age. This is a piece is not just an item of jewellery. iI is a wearable memorial of love from history.
