Antique Victorian Miniature Rat Locket; Circa 1880

A whimsical late 19th to early 20th century novelty pendant, combining Victorian curiosity with exceptional craftsmanship. 

Mounted in 9 carat gold, the pendant is formed from a glazed glass capsule enclosing two delightful miniature mice. Free to move within the pendant, the tiny mice have been crafted with remarkable realism, their delicate wire tails, whiskers and textured fur body giving them amlifelike appearance!

Providing a beautiful backdrop is a mother of pearl panel, whose soft iridescence catches the light and enhances the illusion of the mice scurrying within their tiny world. The movement of the figures brings the pendant to life, making it an endlessly fascinating object to admire.

CONDITION: This is overall in good antique condition with a patina of wear to the gold and glass. As the rats are made from a fur/felt some of this has come away from generations of use and is peppered within the compartment. At som angles a small wire used to hold in the mother of pearl can be seen within.
