Victorian 'Aunt Alice' Love Lock Pendant' Circa 1896

A beautiful and sentimental piece from the late Victorian era, this sterling silver heart-shaped padlock pendant bears the hand engraved dedication “Aunt Alice” and the date 9.09.96. The front displays the engraving in graceful script, softened by over a century of gentle wear, while the reverse remains plain.

The heart lock was a cherished motif in Victorian jewellery, symbolising love, loyalty, and the safeguarding of one’s affections. In padlock form, it represented a heart that could only be “unlocked” by the one who held the key; an enduring emblem of devotion and trust. This example, dedicated to an “Aunt Alice,” may have been gifted as a token of affection from a beloved niece or nephew, marking a special occasion in the family’s history.

Condition: Overall in lovely antique condition. As can be seen in the pictures the bolt ring at the top has been soldered shut.
