Georgian 'Dinna Forget' Intaglio Fob Pendant; Circa 1830

This charming Georgian intaglio fob dates to the first half of the nineteenth century and is a beautiful example of both the skill and sentimentality of the period.

The fob pendant is created in 15 carat gold, its simple mount allowing the remarkable intaglio to take centre stage. Set within is a beautifully polished rectangular banded agate, displaying striking natural bands of warm white and rich orange. Agates of this colouring are uncommon in their own right, but to find one so beautifully carved as an intaglio is particularly unusual.

Expertly engraved into the agate is a fine thistle, the emblem of Scotland, accompanied by the motto "Dinna Forget." A phrase meaning "Do not forget," it served as a heartfelt expression of remembrance and affection. Such mottos were often exchanged between loved ones or carried as deeply personal talismans, making this fob as sentimental as it is beautiful.

A darling survivor of the Georgian era. This exceptional intaglio fob is a wearable piece of history as sublime today as I was almost 200 years ago.
