Georgian Topaz & Pearl Brooch in in 9 Carat Gold; Circa 1800

A charming Georgian jewel, this sweet flower brooch is a beautiful example of the romantic naturalism and fine craftsmanship of the Georgian period.

Created in gold, the flower head centres around a glowing, foil backed oval topaz, its warm brilliance framed by ten graduated pearls. The pearls lend a soft, luminous quality to the design, while the floral chased stem is set with three tiny garnets, adding little flashes of rich colour amongst the gold.

Every detail feels considered, from the graduated pearls forming the blossom to the carefully chased stem. There is something particularly lovely about Georgian floral jewellery, with its enduring symbolism of affection and the natural world.

Turn the brooch over and another small piece of its history can be found. Engraved between the pin fittings are the initials ‘JS’. A charming original detail that may offer a glimpse of an original owner, and a reminder that this little flower has been treasured before.
