An unusual Victorian necklace. This treasure has been made in crisp silver and adorned with a series of tiny silver discs, each individually engraved with a single ivy leaf.
The collar style necklace has a lovely sense of movement, with the little discs creating a playful yet unexpectedly elegant design across the neck. Each one is beautifully detailed, with the engraved ivy leaves adding a layer of Victorian symbolism.
Ivy was one of the most meaningful plants of the Victorian era, traditionally associated with fidelity, affection and everlasting attachment. As an evergreen plant that remains green throughout the seasons and hold fast to what it is growing on it was particularly suited to sentimental jewellery.
A rare and highly unusual Victorian necklace. This piece is full of character and representative of the nineteenth century love of jewellery with hidden meanings and personal symbolism.
