About this treasure:
Filled with love this beautiful collectors piece marks the passing of a loved one in Georgian era England. A more sort after and rare design, this is filled with sentiment.
This jewel is a Georgian mourning ring created in around 1830 to commemorate the passing of a family member. Mourning/sentimental jewellery became popular in the Georgian and Victorian era as a way of remembering those who have passed. They are testaments to the adoration of one to another.
The top of this ring features a central locket encased by a domed rock crystal. Beneath this will lay a plaited lock of the individuals hair. This means a part of them can be close to those who missed them. Hair jewellery was very popular and you can find this is varying styles and values.
Surrounding this we have a black enamel boarder, outside of which is a halo of lustrous white pearls. Pearls were often used in mourning jewellery to represent tears for the loved one.
Looking down the shoulders we have ornate gold work and further fine enamelling. The quality and attention to detail is beautiful, plus its such a bonus to have the original shoulder and shank as these can be lost, replaced it broken over their life times.
No expense was spared as each shoulder features further decoration and enamelling. The entire ring has been created in rich buttery 15 carat gold making this is high status ring. It would have been commissioned by a person of wealth upon the loss of their loved on.
This jewel is remarkable condition considering its approximately 200 years of age. We adore the sentimental meaning.
This would make an amazing addition to any jewellery lovers collection. Not just an beautiful ring, but a piece of love in history.
