A striking and unusual Victorian five stone gypsy ring. Created in buttery 18 carat gold and set with a graduated line of cabochon chrysoberyl stones. Each gem is carefully chosen for balance, the central cabochon larger and flanked by graduating stones. The stones are sunk into smooth gold collets, the classic gypsy setting that became so popular in the late 19th century for its durability and bold aesthetic.
Chrysoberyl was a rare and less conventional choice in Victorian jewellery, far less often seen than others of this type. Its luminous greenish yellow hue and exceptional clarity give it a captivating presence. With a shifting play of light that makes the cabochons seem almost to glow from within. Hence its other name; cat's eye. The unusual choice of stone adds both individuality and a sense of exclusivity to this piece, while the buttery depth of the 18 carat gold enhances the warmth of the gems.
This ring beautifully combines the solidity and timelessness of the gypsy setting with the rare, almost ethereal qualities of chrysoberyl making it a jewel of both visual charm and historical interest
