Antique Coral Boxed House Fly Stick Pin; Circa 1895

A fabulous antique find, this is an extremely fine example of Victorian insect jewellery. Fun and whimsical this tie pin would have been worn to create a little trick! We are also happy to be able to offer this in an antique box! 

Created as a perfect life size house fly, when worn the pin disappears leaving what looks like a bright orange fly! A great piece of Victorian Novelty jewellery. The fly is created from carved coral, every detail rendered in perfect size. 

The Victorian era was full of change with a thirst for exploration and knowledge. This often filtered down into design, architecture and jewellery. Increased industrialisation also saw people look back to nature and the animal kingdom. Bejewelled beetles, insects and spiders were all sort after as jewellery designs and this is a wonderful example. Flies were sort after adornments!
