This evocative signet ring dates to the pivotal year of 1914, when Europe stood on the threshold of profound change. Crafted in warm 9 carat rose gold, the ring features an ornate shield-shaped face, upon which the Union Jack flies proudly in vivid red, white, and blue enamel.
The year 1914 marked the beginning of the First World War, a conflict that would reshape the world. In Britain, a wave of national pride and unity swept the country as young men enlisted in their hundreds of thousands. Jewellery such as this, personal and symbolic was often worn or gifted as a quiet testament and support for the war effort.
The ring’s detailed workmanship, from the finely chased edges of the shield to the delicately painted enamel flag, speaks of both sentiment and craftsmanship. These pieces were not mass-produced souvenirs, but rather cherished personal items. Sometimes worn by those who served, or by loved ones at home holding the memory of someone far away
