Exquisite Enamel Pansy Heart Pendant in 9 Carat Gold; Circa 1880

This exquisite Victorian necklace is a true treasure of sentiment. This enchanting puffy heart pendant, lovingly fashioned in 9 carat gold, would once have been given as a token of deep affection. Perhaps a keepsake exchanged between two lovers in the late 19th century.

At the heart of the piece is a beautifully hand enamelled pansy, a flower rich in meaning during the Victorian era. In the language of flowers, the pansy symbolised “thinking of you”; its very name echoing the French pensée, meaning “thought.” To gift a pansy was to send a silent message of tender remembrance and devotion. It was a romantic gesture that spoke without words.
