Victorian Agate Heart Locket pendant: Circa 1880

A poignant and beautiful example of Victorian mourning jewellery, this heart-shaped locket pendant embodies both sentiment and craftsmanship of the era. One side is set with a warm toned agate, its natural striations giving depth and character to the polished surface. The reverse opens to reveal a glazed heart-shaped panel, within which is preserved a finely woven panel of hair; a treasured memento of a loved one.

Mourning jewellery held a special significance in the Victorian period, when rituals of remembrance were highly symbolic and deeply personal. Condition: This is overall in good antique condition with a patina of wear to the overall on the agate and gold. The loop at the top has worn thin in a couple of places/
