Victorian Bloodstone Rose Intaglio Fob Pendant; Circa 1860

A delicate antique intaglio fob pendant, wonderfully small in scale yet full in symbolism and detail.

The pendant has an ornate gold setting, with intricate decoration framing the finely carved stone below. At its base is a deep green bloodstone, hand engraved with a single, beautifully rendered rose.

The combination of bloodstone and rose makes this a particularly evocative jewel. The rose has long carried associations with love and devotion, while bloodstone itself has an ancient and fascinating history, traditionally believed to possess protective qualities.

The hand carved intaglio has the wonderful softness that comes from being worked by hand, with the rose emerging subtly from the rich, mottled surface of the bloodstone. We adore how every petal, leaf and bud have been perfectly recreated.
