Victorian Carnelian Rose Fob Pendant; Circa 1860

An intriguing antique fob pendant, centred around a rich, warm carnelian carved with a beautifully romantic rose.

The warm orange stone has been hand engraved with a delicate rose, accompanied by the mysterious inscription “U.X.L THE”. A beautiful hidden message which means ‘you excel the rose’ ~ meaning you’re more beautiful than the rose, and their beauty is even unmatched by the most sublime flower. 

The fob is finished with a useful split ring, making it particularly versatile and easy to attach to a watch chain, necklace or existing piece of jewellery. The combination of the rose and carnelian is particularly lovely. The rose has long been associated with love and devotion, while the warm, glowing colour of the carnelian gives the fob a rich and tactile quality.
