A striking Victorian oval pendant dating to around 1860, centred with a large faceted oval rock crystal. The crisp facets catch and reflect the light beautifully when worn, giving the pendant wonderful depth and presence.
Applied to the front in silver is an intertwined monogram “S B M”, formed in a bold Gothic-style script. The contrast between the cool silver lettering and the clear brilliance of the rock crystal creates a dramatic and highly decorative effect, typical of mid-Victorian design.
This is a substantial and impressive piece, weighing over 20 grams, and it feels satisfyingly heavy in the hand. A powerful and elegant Victorian jewel, both personal and architectural in character, and a wonderful survivor from the mid 19th century.
