A charming and deeply personal Georgian mourning pendant. Created in 1818 as a lasting tribute to a dearly loved individual, its sentimental love lives on over 200 years later.
Created as a petite gold locket, the pendant is beautifully understated, with a black enamel border framing the glazed front. Black enamel was a traditional feature of Georgian mourning jewellery, symbolising remembrance.
Beneath the glass lies the original lock of blonde hair, wonderfully preserved for more than two centuries. The reverse bears a poignant hand engraved inscription: 'In Memory of M.F. Ob. 19th April 1818'.
This simple dedication records the date of passing and turns the pendant into an intimate memorial, preserving not only a name but the love and affection of those who commissioned it.
