RARE Victorian Milk Tooth & Diamond Ring in 18 Carat Gold; Circa 1870

A highly unusual and evocative piece of sentimental Victorian jewellery, this ring is designed as a classic diamond cluster but with a remarkable and deeply personal twist. At its centre sits a child’s milk tooth, delicately set in claws, and framed by a halo of bright, old-cut diamonds in a scalloped cluster setting. The band is created from 18 carat gold, with the diamonds set in silver. The bright white metal bringing out the sparkle of the diamonds. 

During the Victorian era, sentimental jewellery took many forms from locks of hair, to painted miniatures. Jewellery incorporating a child’s milk tooth was particularly personal. Often created to celebrate the milestones of childhood, child mortality rates were very high so this was a moment to remember.
