Georgian Garnet Mourning Ring; Circa 1829

A darling Georgian mourning ring, lovingly preserved and carrying the memory of a life lived over two centuries ago.

Created in rich 18 carat gold, the ring is centred on a vibrant deep red garnet, its glowing colour providing a striking focal point. Surrounding the stone are finely engraved borders and ornately decorated shoulders, showcasing the elegant craftsmanship synonymous with the late Georgian period.

Originally, the ring would have been accented with black enamel, a traditional feature of mourning jewellery. Over the years this enamel had become heavily worn, and it has now been carefully restored with sympathetic black enamel replacement, allowing the ring to once again reflect its original appearance while respecting its historic character.

Inside the band, the original dedication remains beautifully preserved 'Elizabeth Hornsby Ob. 27th May 1829 Ae. 76'

Poignant and rich in history, this is a wonderful example of Georgian sentimental jewellery, combining 18 carat gold, a glowing garnet, and a beautifully preserved dedication to create a truly special heirloom.
