This is a sublime example of Victorian insect jewellery, a type of jewellery that was deeply beloved during the 19th century. Victorians were fascinated by the natural world, and insect motifs in particular symbolised luck and protection. Spider jewellery was especially prized; admired as both whimsical and symbolic, sentimental and stylish.
This is a mesmerising antique brooch, designed with exquisite attention to detail and set with a striking amethyst cabochon and a lustrous baroque pearl, forming a wonderfully sculptural body. The spider’s head and legs are adorned with rose cut diamonds with antique sparkle and enhancing the lifelike character of the piece.
The gold work captures the refined curve of each leg and the elegant proportions of the creature, giving the brooch a captivating presence and unmistakable Victorian charm. A distinctive antique treasure, perfect for collectors of Victorian jewellery or anyone drawn to the poetry and symbolism of nature inspired design.
