A sublime signet ring made in Ireland in 1968. this vintage jewel's design is rich in symbolism and a rather beautiful Latin motto.
Created in warm 9 carat gold, the ring is set with an oval bloodstone, its deep green surface providing the perfect backdrop for a finely engraved raven. Beneath the bird sits the inscription 'NOS PASCIT DEUS', translating as 'God feeds us'.
The motto is a variation of the Latin phrase Deus pascit corvos ~ God feeds the ravens ~ a sentiment rooted in the idea of divine providence and the assurance that even the smallest or most overlooked creatures are provided for. Ravens have long held a fascinating place in folklore and mythology, associated with intelligence, mystery and the ability to move between worlds.
The detailed raven, rich bloodstone and warm gold give this piece a real presence, while its Irish origin adds lovely layer to its character.
A beguiling mid century jewel with an ancient sentiment at its heart. A reminder that some of the most enduring ideas are those that have travelled through centuries.
